Neko (Mimi) Mode

What is Neko Mode?

Neko Mode is short for Neko Mimi Mode. For those of you who are unfamiliar with moonspeak the phrase translates into "Cat Ear Mode".

It comes from the anime Tsukuyomi -Moon Phase-'s opening theme. The song features Hazuki, the cutest vampire ever, wearing a headband (the source of our logo) and repeating the phrase as the chorus.

A redesign of the original AnimeInfo.org site to make it compatable with a CMS. Was meant to provide all the elements of the original website but dynamic and database driven. So far I have tried just about every CMS out there.

AnimeInfo.org has been a long term project I have been working on and off for over 2 years. I ahven’t gotten very far in it but it has proven to be a great learning experience in the practical application of web development. With over 4 iterations of the site I doubt I will ever get done but like a puzzle you can never crack it nags at me and every 6-8 months I take a crack at it.

Eventually I might do it but I ahve a feeling it will require a custom from the ground up CMS and I don’t think I will be ready for that just yet but I swear to god Frank and Asuka I will get it done eventually if one of you two don’t beat me to it.

AI.org w/ phpWCMS (Version 1.0)
Status: Stalled
Notes: Looked promising. It did what I want and tempalted well but back-end was a mostly hack job and didn’t make updating very easy. Stalled as a last resort option viable but not liked.

AI.org w/ Joomla (Version 2.0)
Status: Canceled
Notes: Joomla did not work well. A bloated and souped up blog it didn’t allow custom content and suffered from a “square peg in round hole” syndrome.

AI.org w/ Xoops (Version 3.0)
Status: Canceled
Notes: Left a bad aftertaste reminding me again of Joomla except less usable. I seriously don’t know what people see in this CMS. Might be worth taking another stab but I highly doubt it.

AI.org w/ Drupal 6 (Version 4.0)
Status: Testing
A bit heavy with tons of 3rd pary modifications but Drupal is the most promising yet. So promising I am doing dual testing on both version of Drupal and comparing the 3rd party mods available to both.

AI.org w/ Drupal 5 (Version 4.5)
Status: Testing
Really of all the open soruce CMSs I have ever used only Drupal had the flexability I needed in content… Though I have a feeling that it was mostly because the Content Construction Kit (CCK) modifications.

AI.org w/ Wordpress (Unimplimented)
Status: Planning
After making NekoMode.com in Wordpress it got me thinking with all the hacking I did and The Loop custom stuff I pulled for the layout weather or not it would be possible to make AI.org using Wordpress as a CMS… It might work but I dunno…
